Pray for the Country of Canada

July 1 is Canada Day. An organization that prays for this country has called on the citizens of the whole nation to pray especially for Canada today (June 28). This also follows what the Bible has written in 1 Timothy 2: 1-4: “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” The substance of the prayer has been suggested to include the following two aspects:

1.      Pray for the nation as a whole:

a)     Ask God to have mercy on Canada so that it becomes a God-fearing, God-serving nation.

b)     Intercede for the church and those in holy service, so that they may be good and faithful supervisors for God.

c)      Pray that believers can be strong and courageous, obey the truth, and be witnesses for the Lord on earth, thereby bringing glory to God and benefit to mankind.

d)      Ask God to bestow His blessing so that the grace of repentance will come upon the entire land.

e)      Pray for the Governor General, Prime Minister, Cabinet, Senate, party leaders and the party caucuses.

f)        Pray for the Provincial Premiers, mayors, and the governments of every province and municipality.

g)     Pray for the Supreme Court, judges, and judicial agencies.

h)      Ask God to protect our land. Pray for the armed forces, law enforcement, fire-fighting and emergency response personnel.

i)        Remember the health care organizations and workers.

j)        Remember people in the education field, teachers and students.

k)      Remember the media and people in the Arts.

2.      Pray for the leaders of the nation and elected representatives at every level, that God would help them:

a)     To have integrity, be willing to serve the people, and have noble characters.

b)     To have wisdom, discernment between right and wrong, and to uphold justice.

c)      To have good health and stable, wholesome family lives.

d)     To acknowledge their own roles, and be humble servants of God.

May we also often and fervently pray for and keep watch over this country that we live in today. In particular, ask God to help the people that belong to Him “…humble themselves and pray and seek my (God’s) face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I (God) hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14), and to let the church have the power to be salt and light to the world, “…so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life …” (Philippians 2:15-16), thereby returning all glory to our Father in Heaven.
