The Gospel is the Power of God

As part of this season¡¦s Sunday School, our church has the study of the Book of Romans. Since today is the occasion of our English Gospel Sunday Service, this writer wishes to share with everyone what it is that is so special about the Gospel that we preach and have received. The Apostle Paul said, ¡§The Gospel ¡K is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.¡¨ (Romans 1:16) The might of the Gospel of God includes at least the following three major triumphs:

1.            Triumph over the sting of sin ¡V Ever since sin entered into the world through one man, Adam, humanity has been under the control of sin so that he cannot escape from it and cannot help committing transgressions. But Christ the Son of God proclaimed to the world that sinners could now have salvation and redemption through God¡¦s chosen method. Their sins may be cleansed through His blood. Only the Son of God has the authority to forgive sins (Mark 2:10), for the sins of man directly offend God, and also because He Himself has tendered the Sin Offering for those offenses. Now sinners have forgiveness for their transgressions through the blood of the Son, and can break away from the control of sin. ¡§So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ¡§ (John 8:36) The Gospel is the power of God, for ¡§no one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. ¡§ (1 John 3:9)

2.      Triumph over the dominion of death ¡V There are many things that man fear on this earth, but none more frightening than death. Man faces death the moment he is born, and death is but the end of life, not it¡¦s portion. The Bible tells us, ¡§Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.¡§ (Hebrews 9:27) The righteous judgment of God is the watershed of our destiny. The destiny of sinners is death ¡V its horror being separation from God. But the might of the Son¡¦s Gospel is that God who is holy became an unblemished man to die for sinners and satisfy the conditions of redemption. Through the power of resurrection of the Holy Spirit, He conquered the dominion of death, so that we may sing aloud the triumphant song: "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.¡¨ (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)

3.      Triumph over Satan ¡V When Christ the Son of God was preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, He drove out many demons, revealing that He has the power to triumph over the dark forces of the spiritual realm. Although Satan tested Him many times, Christ won over all of his temptations. The power of God is that He became a man who was a little lower than the angels of the spiritual realm, and ultimately by His death destroys the devil who holds the authority over death, frees those who all their lives are held in slavery by their fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15), and also hurls down Satan. ¡§Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ¡¥Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony¡K¡¦¡¨ (Revelations 12:10-11)

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Good News of the manifestation of God¡¦s power, for His power has released man from the dominion of sin, death and Satan. Now we can triumph through Jesus Christ!
